It’s March! Isn’t that the first month of spring? Have we made it through the bleak mid winter?

There’s an odd bit of soul at the side of the patio and near the shed, that’s crying out to be used for planting. Originally the asparagus was going to go in the permanent bed with the rhubarb. On reflection there isn’t the space so the odd area will now become an asparagus bed.

I decided to turn over the soil before the raised bed edges are constructed because it’s quite a small bed and I think it would be a bit awkward. Ince the soil was dug it’s just left to me to convince Si to make the bed.

Later in the afternoon Polly and family arrived with some trees. Polly had applied for a grant to get some ancient and local apple trees. The grant was accepted and she got an amazing 5 apple tres which are a mix of eating and cider apples. Whimple has such a strong history of cider making (Whiteways Cider, now houses including our house).

Everyone who was at the allotment lent a hand to dig holes and plant trees in the waste land at the end of the plots. Very, very cool!
