Another work day complete and armed with a list of suitable allotment names from my Mum and me, of we drove again to "Tahiti".
The main purpose of the visit was to fit the lower section of the front pallet, having cut it to size the day before. Obvs as a "engineering" type of job, Si got to work. This time, learning from the lessons of yesterday, we had tools. Si set to work digging a trench at the front of the compost bin (the remaining section of pallet will eventually have hinges affixed and a clasp, so that I can open the front section at will and dig out my lush compost) and I set to work clearing a bit more of the ground. In next to no time Si had finished and I hadn't. Let's face it, if it took me 1 1/2 hours to clear a 3x2m section, it's going to take me 30 to 40 hours to clear the whole site.
I think Si took pity on my pathetic, scrawny muscles or just too painful watching my fork only going into the ground by about an inch, because next thing I know he's offering to dig up the docks for me to collect and dispose of. Remember from recent blogs, these fellas have to be got rid of in their entirety and believe me the roots go down about a foot and they really don't want to let go. We cleared a section from the west edge path on one side to where we thought the border was on the east side. Bored of lifting docks Si then announced it would be a good idea to mark my border on the east edge. This wasn't as easy as it sounds as the soil is quite claggy and pulls away in great lumps. How has every other plot managed to have perfect edges and paths?
Sometime later the edging was completed, territory and borders clearly marked and I can now lay claim properly to my kingdom of Tahiti, it's a magical place!
