16th Sept - Three Is The Magic Number

I've had a super response to my blogs with a good number of people liking and following and subscribing to the page so you know when I've posted something new. I also get notifications if someone new starts following me. This happened on Saturday so I messaged the person in question to say hi and to come dig. Alas the message wasn't picked up until Saturday evening. What else was I to do but to invite Jez over for breakfast Sunday morning and to spend the day on Tahiti. How could anyone refuse such an offer!

As promised Jez walked in the door at 9.30am to the smell of a large fried breakfast and plenty of coffee. Never fear, he brought his own spade and we'd bought a new s/s fork at B&Q the night before. Suitably filled and armed we set off.

Three is the magic number. I couldn't believe the speed at which these guys were cracking on. The metre wide section very soon had 3 decent sized dents in it and we were filling up the green bags quicker than we could say perennial weed.

We stopped for short water breaks and munched of GF millionaires shortbread and fresh pineapple slices. This was beginning to feel like a breeze.

Apart from division of labour, the other great thing about having two guys on site means that I didn't have to try to move the dumpy sack into the car.

The cordoned section was soon complete so we started to work our way eastward a spade width at a time. It's funny how you can overlook the obvious until it's pointed out to you...so whilst the boys headed east, I set to work clearing the walkway section in front of the temporary patio. We found the odd slug and caterpillar which we left on the Sacrificial Table of the Temple of Robin (that's the corner post of the compost bin to the uninitiated) - it's important to watch over those that watch over you. The robin was here first and will keep my cabbages free of cabbage whites if I train him well.

Getting bored on north to south I decided to jazz it up a little and I made a brave breakout to the eastern border! Oh it's tough to the east with nasty grass and nettles but I was determined to keep going until I hit my boundary. By 3:30pm the troops were wavering but neither were willing to give up first. In true leadership spirit and in the hopes of not scaring Jez off from returning in the future, I mentioned the P word.

Seriously folks, look how little there is left to do!!!!! I bet it's not going to give in easily. Just imagine when I can start talking about rotavators and rotavating the land (anyone got one I can borrow?????)

Back to the P word, pub!

Thanks Thirsty Farmer for once again keeping the workforce happy and me filled with Thatchers Haze.

Thanks to Jez for the extra pair of hands and the pineapple.
